PALIMPSEST

by Madame Česki

/
  • Compact Disc (CD) + Digital Album

An alluring 12 page colour booklet and gatefold case.
Artwork exclusively crafted by Scottish embroiderer Scott Ramsay Kyle.
Includes lyrics for each track (in English).

Performed on instruments such as strings, dulcitone, harpsichord and saw, Madame Česki creates a tapestry of songs in a folk tradition. Her topics include birds, spinning wheels and spoons made out of bone.

Madame Česki's biography includes performing with Gruff Rhys, Collectress, 10 Mewn Bws, Marques Toliver, Fiona Bevan and Orphans&Vandals, yet this is her first step in front of the mirror.

The songs are rough hewn from the mountains, with eerie remembrances and obsessive patterns, recorded naively, with devilish vocals and strings.

Includes unlimited streaming of PALIMPSEST via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more.

You said I'd be free to come to you You said you'd be waiting out for me This communion - I am waiting Book of David written in my time It is written in your hand and mine Signifying - Listen to me Book of David Are you listening? Book of David

Flying 04:09
There was a bird And he soared High And on the wind He rest his wing Flying People say you're gone But I feel you on the wind - flying
3.
Bone Spoon 04:00
I gave you a bone spoon, a spoon made of bone Take it and keep it to have in your home When the egg's ready - it will crack! So line up your soldiers from front and to back The yolk it is yellow, the circle is white So taste it, and lick it, and eat it up right Oh egg! You're so salty, and sweet, and hot Your tongue it is hungry and eats every drop Bone spoon, bone spoon, bone spoon, bone spoon But why don't you use it? You threw it away! Buried in the ground for another day The soil it is sticky - your fingers are black! Poor spoon is covered as you turn your back Yet the spoon is growing to a tall tree - The Bone Tree is born! For you and for me So do not go hungry with your bone spoon - Come see me, and bring it, and let it be soon Bone spoon, bone spoon, bone spoon, bone spoon

Lonely Waltz 02:42

My Moon Day Walk Blue and bright Sparkling river Day in night Bird circling high, cutting cold My body warm from your hold Wrapped in many layers to keep me warm Stop my heart tumbling out On the ground, in the dirt Let the animals take it for their own Peering to the moon At her face Waxy whiteness, blank half space And she spoke With the birds With the trees And they said - beware Moon Day Walk

Dreams are dancing everywhere Boat is gently rocking Swim right over, won't you catch me when I'm drowning? Still and sleeping You are silent in your reverie Can you hear me calling? Spinning Wheel! You turn a thousand times My hand at the cradle Golden thread of mind Warp and weft of day and night All around me, brilliant light Stars of blue, stars of gold Safe in your arms Wear the cloak of wanting You and I are walking, Talking without words We thread the final stitch Spinning Wheel! You burn a thousand nights My hands turning faster Looms of words and lights Spinning Wheel! You turn a thousand times My hand at the cradle Golden thread of mine So my brain and heart They stop to turn like clockwork Deathly sleep encase me - will I ever wake? Dreams are filled with visions Apparitions, missions Voices sweet and devilish Day and night are one Spinning Wheel! You burn a thousand nights My hands turning faster Looms of words and lights Spinning Wheel! You turn a thousand times My hand at the cradle Golden thread of mind

Stories 05:47
Bedtime, Bedtime stories Belonging, knowing Warmth growing Your words they touch my mind Old caressing hand Stories, to remember Moments, forever Stillness sparkling These jewels they shine so bright They turn the dark to light There is a story, you and me I keep writing, unable to see
